Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday the 10th of February the Church celebrated Ash Wednesday. Archpriest Canon Reuben Micallef celebrated Mass during which ash was scattered over the faithful gathered for the Sacred Liturgy. Ash Wednesday commemorates the beginning of the forty day period known in Christianity as Lent. Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes On Thursday the 11th of February the Church commemorated Our Lady of Lourdes. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the young girl Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The apparitions took place on various days during February, March and other months. St Pope John Paul II declared the 11th of February as the International Day for the Sick. Animated Via Crucis On Friday the 19th of February the parish choir animated the Way of the Cross. Franco Cefai was the organist for the occasion. Archpriest Canon Reuben Micallef read the biblical citations while Nicholas Cassar read the readings for each station. Spiritual Exercises Spritual Exercises for Married Couples will take place in the Parish Hall between Monday the 29th of February and Friday the 4th of March. The preacher will be Rev. Canon. John Sultana, Rector of St Anthony the Abbot Church, Xagħra. They will commence at 7.00 p.m. Spiritual Exercises for everyone will begin on Monday the 22nd and end on Friday the 26th of February. They will take place in the Parish Church after the 6.00 pm Mass. The preacher will be Rev. Canon. Michael Galea, Vice-Director of the Arka Foundation. Penitential Pilgrimage to Ta’ Pinu The annual penitential pilgrimage to Ta’ Pinu coincides always with the third Sunday of Lent. It will leave the parish square at 3.00 p.m. and Mass will take place at 4.00 p.m. at the Ta’ Pinu Basilica. On that Sunday there will be no Mass in the Parish Church at 4.30 p.m. Those who are not able to walk will have transport provided for them at 3.30 p.m. from the parish square. Written by: Fr.
