From Christmas to Lent
 
  Epiphany and New Year
On Sunday the 2nd of January 2011, the Church all around the world celebrated the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. This feast commemorates the visit or the Three Kings or Magi to the child Jesus. It is a very important liturgical feast especially among our Easter Brethren of the Orthodox Churches since it is on the 6th of January that they celebrate the Birth of the Lord. In our parish we celebrated the Quaranta’Ore or Feast of the Forty Hours of Adoration. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was held between 8.00 and 10.00 am.

A Meeting for the Elderly
For the occasion of the Christmas and the New Year activities, a meeting for the elderly was held on Sunday the 2nd of January after the 4.00 pm Mass at the premises of the MUSEUM. There was food and entertainment consisting of a play organized by the children who frequent the MUSEUM branch in Zebbug. Gift were also distributed.

Christmas Party for the parish choirs
A party was organized for our two parish choirs Regina Angelorum and Santa Maria in the hall of the parish centre on Friday the 7th of January at 6.30 p.m. Various members of the two choirs were present and gifts were distributed to the choir mistresses and to the organist who work very hard all the year round. The parish priest the Very Rev. Canon Reuben Micallef was present.

The Parish invited for the feast of St Paul
The Parish Priest Canon Reuben Micallef together with the parish choir was invited to preside over the feast of St Paul celebrated in the Church of Saint Paul in Marsalforn. On Friday the 21st of January, the Third Day of the Triduum took place in the Marsalforn church. At 6.00 p.m. the Archpriest celebrated Mass which was animated by the Santa Marija and Regina Angelorum choirs.

Thanksgiving Mass
Dun Gorg Vella, brother of Archpriest Emeritus Mgr. Luigi Vella celebrated Mass at 6.00 p.m. on Wednesday the 26th of January. The Mass was celebrated as a thanksgiving for his 75th birthday.

Seminary for the Liturgical Ministry
On Friday the 4th of February the Diocese of Gozo organized a seminar for all those who participate in the liturgical ministry. It took place at the Parish Centre in Munxar at 5.30 p.m. The main aim of the seminar was to prepare lectors, readers and liturgy animators for Lent. Certificates were presented at the end of the session.

Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday 22nd February the Catholic Church celebrated Ash Wednesday; the beginning of Lent. At 6.00 p.m. Archpriest Fr. Rueben Micallef led the Mass in which ashes were distributed. The congregation was quite a big one; during the homily Can. Micallef mentioned the importance of fasting and abstinence which are characteristic of this time of year and emphasized the importance of participating in a group or parish organization within the parish itself.
