Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was held in our parish and in the entire Catholic world on Sunday the 7th of October which was also the 27th Sunday in the Ordinary Time of the Year. It is now an ancient tradition in the Church that the first Sunday of the tenth month of the year is dedicated to the feast of the Virgin of the Rosary although the liturgical commemoration falls always on the 7th. Coincidentally this year the procession marched on the liturgical day itself. At 4. 30 p.m. Fr. Geoffrey G. Attard led the Mass; Archpriest Can. Reuben Micallef and Fr. Joseph Vella concelebrated. During his homily Fr Attard referred to the historical roots of the feast which go back to the 7th of October 1571 when the Battle of Lepanto was won by the Christian forces. It was Saint Pius V who instituted the feast. After the Mass, the procession went round the streets of the village. At about 6.30pm the procession entered the Church and Eucharistic Benediction was given.
