First Wednesday of Our Lady
Wednesday the 2nd of May was the first Wednesday among the fifteen that precede the liturgical solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin, known locally as L-Erbghat ta’ Santa Marija. These celebrations are held in many a church dedicated to the Assumption, first amongst them being the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary. However even in our parish, since the time of Archpriest Emeritus Mgr. Luigi Vella, the Wednesdays of the Virgin have been commemorated in a solemn manner. Last Wednesday, Archpriest Can. Rueben Micallef celebrated Mass at 7.00 pm. The choir of the parish took part and animated the liturgy. In his homily, Canon Micallef referred to the importance of veneration to Mary in the Church. At the end of Mass, a document of remembrance was distributed to all the children present which they will bring with them to church every Wednesday and tick a box on a weekly basis.
