Holy week began with the solemnity of Palm Sunday on Saturday, 27th March. On the eve of the solemnity, the parishioners gathered at 6.00 pm in front of the Parish Centre in the Parish Square for the blessing of the palm branches. Then the procession proceeded to the Church where Mass began. Both the
Santa Marija and the
Regina Angelorum choirs participated. On that very night, the youth of the parish were united with other youths from all over the diocese for the Diocesan Via Crucis that took place on the Ghammar Hill at ta’ Pinu. The Bishop presided. The Via Crucis began at 6.30 pm. Maundy Thursday The Maundy Thursday liturgical service began at 6.00 pm on Thursday, 1st April. The washing of the feet and the solemn celebration of the Eucharist were presided by the Archpriest Canon Reuben Micallef. At the end of the service, the Blessed Sacrament was transported to the Altar of Reposition popularly known with our people as Is-Sepulkru. Afterwards, the ancient devotion of Is-Seba’ Visti took place in the Church. At 9.00 pm a good number of parishioners participated in the Seba’ Visti which is organized out with the parish. Good Friday On Friday, 2nd April, the Church celebrated the solemn commemoration of the Passion and Death of the Lord. The liturgy began in the Church at 3.00pm. The Adoration of the Cross and the reading of the Passion according to St John took place. The congregation was a big one. At 6.00 pm the procession began accompanied by the Santa Marija Band. The Easter Vigil and Solemnity The Easter Vigil began at 8.00 pm. The entire eight readings were read and the Archpriest preached after the Gospel outlining the unique importance of today’s solemnity. With the singing of the Gloria, the Church was lit and the bells tolled solemnly. On Easter Sunday, the 4th of April, at 4.00 pm there was the Concelebration with the participation of the Santa Marija and Regina Angelorum choirs of the parish. At the end of Mass, the korteo with the statue of Christ Resurrected came out of the parish, accompanied by the Santa Marija Band. |
